GED Underage Waiver

Underage Waiver Form

📚 Enrolling a 16 or 17-Year-Old in Our GED Program

What Parents Need to Know

If your child is 16 or 17 years old and interested in enrolling in our GED program, Florida law requires a few important steps before they can begin classes or take the official GED® test.

We’re here to help make this process as simple as possible. Please follow the steps below.

✅ Step 1: Official Withdrawal from Last School

Your child must be officially withdrawn from their current or last school (public, private, or homeschool umbrella program).

What to do:

  • Contact your child's former school and request a Withdrawal Letter on school letterhead.
  • The letter must clearly state your child is no longer enrolled.

✅ Step 2: Complete the FGED-01 Underage GED Waiver Form

The Florida Department of Education requires all underage students (ages 16–17) to complete the FGED-01 Form before enrolling or testing.

Here’s how:

  1. Download the form: Download FGED‑01 (PDF)
  2. Fill in your child’s information — use the same email address they used to register at GED.com
  3. A parent or legal guardian must sign the form in the presence of a notary public
  • Most banks, libraries, or UPS stores can notarize documents

✅ Step 3: Submit Your Documents

Once you have:

  • ✔ The Withdrawal Letter
  • ✔ The Completed and Notarized FGED‑01 Form

You’re ready to submit them.

Send copies to both:

  1. Our GED Program Office (bring or email) Directions >>
  2. Florida Department of Education (HSE Office)

⚠ Important Notes:

  • Your child cannot begin classes or schedule their GED® test until both documents are submitted and approved.
  • No superintendent or school board signature is needed — the process has been simplified statewide as of November 1, 2024.
  • This is required by Florida Rule 6A‑6.0201 and Florida Statute §1003.435.

📝 Quick Checklist for Parents:
